- The salt mines are approximately 3000 wells, fed by a subway spring. It is located at 3380 meters, 56.8 km from the city of Cusco, in the Sacred Valley. According to legend, the salt is formed from the tears of Ayar Cachi (one of the brothers of Ayar Manco Ayar founder of Cusco), who dies in tears because he could not found the Tahuantinsuyo.
